A Focus on Emotions
Emotional disconnection between parents and their children is at the root of many troubling childhood behaviours.
Emotional disconnection with themselves is at the root of much of the unhappiness parents feel about their parenting.
Conscious parenting gives parents the insight and tools to address children’s problem behaviours without causing emotional damage to the child or to the parents themselves.
When a child’s emotional development is tended to, many challenging childhood behaviours will lessen. When a parent’s emotional development is tended to, the parent will feel confident and fulfilled in their parenting.
My approach to conscious parenting has three strands: Parent Education, Psychotherapy for Parents, and my Conscious Release™ technique.
Much parent education focuses primarily on children’s behaviour—how to encourage good behaviour and discourage misbehaviour. The problem is that these methods can be damaging to children’s emotional health. My page Parent Education presents an approach that focuses primarily on children’s emotional development as the way to address off-track behaviours.
Sometimes a parent’s own past experiences can make it difficult to create a warm and loving connection with their child. My page Psychotherapy for Parents reviews how counselling can help parents reconnect with themselves by understanding the roots of the intense and sometimes difficult emotions parents can experience in reaction to their children.
From time to time we need more than ‘the talking cure’ to get to the root of parenting challenges. Visit my Conscious Release™ page to find out how this unique mind/body-oriented technique can help parents release themselves from the grip of unconscious parenting patterns.
